Description
By Clare Leighton. Sumach Press, 1991. Four Hedges describes an enchanting year, month by month, in the life of the author's garden created from "rough" meadow in the Chilterns, England. A beautifully written chronicle accompanied by engravings lovingly illustrating the essence of the seasons and joys and hardships of the gardener. Leighton was well known in the 1930's as a superb book illustrator and author as well as for her contributions to the revival of wood engraving. First published in 1935, the book was reissued in 1991 with an introduction by Gillian Lindsay. Hardback with dustjacket, 167 pp.
